We began to realize how special the Kanzler Vineyard was, and will continue to be, when we harvested our first fruit from the vineyard in 2002 (our first Kanzler Vineyard Pinot Noir). The vineyard is in Sebastopol, just south of Bodega Highway, on an extremely cool, gently sloping site. Many distinct components went into this wine contributing to the many layers and complexity. Four lots were picked (one lot each of Dijon clones 115 and Pommard and 2 lots of Dijon clone 667) at the peak of flavor development, fermented separately in French oak (42% new oak) and then precisely blended to create the most balanced wine possible. We recommend cellaring this wine for 2-3 years and enjoying over the next 5-7 years after.
Profiles of blackberry, black cherry and rose petal supported by a rich, bold core of dark stone fruit and cedar.
Bold blackberry and cherry are prominent with undertones of sweet spice, leather and cedar. A bold Pinot Noir, the Kanzler Vineyard exudes stunning depth, which lingers throughout the long finish. The dark fruit quality prevails, complimented with sweet oak, chocolate and floral notes, making this wine extremely complex and layered.
