The blend for our 2003 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is classic Russian River Valley with a luscious mouth-watering palate and deep, focused flavors. The final blend is made up of 5 vineyards from the middle to upper reaches of the Russian River Valley: Amber Ridge, Koplen, Cohn, Dutton-Manzana and Tykanera. The clones are blend of Dijon clones 667, 115, old Dijon and Pommard. The wine was aged in 100% French oak barrels (44% new oak) for 17 months.
Rich, black cherry, ripe raspberry and cool, blue fruits are laced with milk chocolate, vanilla and hints of white pepper.
Forward raspberry and cherries jubilee are complemented with dark, chewy stone fruit and a complex, silky, ripe mouth-feel that finishes long and clean with plum and lavender. This is deeply concentrated, yet extremely well-balanced and precise. While this is drinking extremely well right now, we believe this will continue to improve and drink well for over the next 5-7 years.
